Any leads on where a similar looking tie could be purchased? It made an impression on my nephew and I would love to get him one like it.

Jindal’s choice was definitely calculated. As with Obama, the stripes on his tie match the stripes of the U.S. flag. However, the wider stripes on Jindal’s tie match those of the flag in the background so closely (the lines are even parallel) that it clashes, and that clash is likely part of the reason his response felt so forced. The stripes on his tie go down from left to right, which is also known as the “American Stripe”, a choice meant to clearly separate the GOP from President Obama.

What do you make of the fact that Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana wore a tie with the same color scheme, but with much wider stripes and the diagonal stripes going in the other direction during the Republican response?

i think the red tie worked well in coordination with the red and white stripes of the flag which was hanging right behind him. IMO that may have had something to do with it as well.
